You know how we love our Try Day Friday series! Each Friday afternoon on our Facebook page, our concept designer Shannon Smith shares a new technique with you LIVE. Isn’t that so fun? This week Shannon used our Color Splash Watercolor Pencils! You can see the video right here. Make sure you leave Shannon a comment and let her know how much you enjoyed the project.
Shannon started with a panel of our Color Splash Sheets trimmed down to 4″x5.25″ and stamped the florals from the Beauty Blooms stamp set using the Green Olive True Color Fusion Ink Pad. But it’s now time for another layer! A piece of Whip Cream Cardstock stamped again with the Beauty Blooms Shannon creates the top layer of flowers. But, now, let’s have some fun!
Shannon used a variety of pink shades around the outside of the florals, coloring heavily right next to the stamped borders. Once she was finished – the Blender Brush would help distribute the beautiful color that was deposited along the edges. But that is not all! A clear block helps create a palette for the pencils. Shannon used the blender brush to deposit color onto the clear block, creating a pool of water color perfect to blend into the already colored flowers.
The flowers aren’t the only part that deserves a little water color attention! Shannon colored a bit more green on the leaves (on the Color Splash sheet) then used the blender brush to blend it, creating beautiful leaves with depth!
You know it’s time to fussy cut those flowers on the cardstock panel, trimming close to the stamped line. Once you’re finished, you can use a Foam Square to pop them off of the page. So, pretty, right? Now, you can use that same technique from the flowers, brushing water directly on the pencils, collecting the watercolor color in a pool on a clear block. Taking that color deposit, brush it over the background on the Color Splash Sheet Panel. You can add a little bit of depth by flicking some of that color onto the background.
Once finished with the major design element, Shannon added the details, including the sentiment on Journey Vellum. There’s so many beautiful pieces to this card and it’s amazing to look at!
